May 1, 2025—On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Massachusetts will observe its third annual Moyamoya Disease Awareness Day. Credit Unions Kids at Heart®, and its supporters will host activities across the Commonwealth to raise awareness of this rare neurological disease. Studies of Moyamoya in children conducted at Boston Children’s Hospital are among their research directives, and we stand with them in their efforts to highlight this serious condition. Vertifi Software is proud to invest our charitable giving toward pioneering pediatric medical research as a Corporate Sponsor of Credit Unions Kids at Heart.
Moyamoya is a progressive neurological disease which causes blood vessels in the brain to narrow restricting blood flow. If left untreated, this dangerous disease can lead to life-threatening strokes in children and adults, resulting in long-term, debilitating impairments. Early diagnosis and intervention, however, can significantly improve a patient’s prognosis. A cerebral angiogram will show the tell-tall cloudlike pattern of blood vessels, and surgery to restore blood flow can reduce the risk of stroke for both children and adults. With surgical treatment, patients typically experience excellent recovery and can lead normal, active lives.
CU Kids at Heart and its Corporate Sponsors, Participating Credit Unions, and partners, including Boston Children’s Hospital and 98.5 The Sports Hub, have organized advocacy and initiatives throughout Massachusetts. Visit the CU Kids at Heart website for the current list of scheduled official proclamations, municipal and corporate site displays, public service announcements, workplace observances, and more.
